How to read the results
A Modbus register holds 16 bits. Values bigger than 65535, negative numbers and decimals are often stored in two registers (32 bits) or four (64 bits). The Modbus standard sends the high word first (ABCD), but many meters and PLCs send the low word first (CDAB, "word swap"). BADC and DCBA also swap the bytes inside each register and are rare.
Rows highlighted in green look like real measurements (a reasonable size and few decimals). Compare them with the value shown on the device.
Scaled integers
Many devices avoid floats and send integers with implied decimals: raw 215 with a scale of 0.1 means 21.5. Check the device manual for "×0.1", "resolution 0.01" or "1 decimal".
Find the register automatically
Have the device in front of you? ModLens reads it directly and its Find a value feature searches every register, format, byte order and scale for the number on the display. The free version covers this.
